On February 1, residents of Charles City gathered at Union Baptist Church on Old Union Road to gain perspective from several speakers regarding the environmental impacts and land use of data centers as well as community organizational efforts regarding past attempts to construct environmentally challenging operations. The map above with red dots represents where people live within District 1 who attended the community meeting. The meeting was well attended by District 1 residents as well as a few from Districts Two and Three Mr. Patterson, Board of Supervisors District One representative, also attended.
Those in attendance were able to hear from Tim Cywiski from the Sierra Club. Mr. Cywiski provided information pertaining to various concerns that are common with data center projects and potential effects such projects could have on the citizens and the environment. Mr. Joseph Sherman with Poole, Brooke, Plumlee, PC also spoke to the crowd of over 50 citizens. Mr. Sherman specializes in property rights litigation and was able to provide the group with ways in which his services may be of benefit to the citizens, regarding the Diode Ventures project. Ms. La’Veesha Rollins from Concerned Citizens of Charles City County, C5) also spoke about her organization’s past efforts to thwart the construction of two natural gas power plants and about being a unified community.
